Sarah Geary Earns Second Straight CAA Rookie of the Week Honor

NORFOLK, Va. -- For the second straight week, redshirt freshman Sarah Geary (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) was named the Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week. Geary posted two league wins over George Mason, receiving votes, and James Madison, ranked 20th in the nation. With the wins, Geary assured the Lady Monarchs a winning season for the first time since 2003 and she lowered her goals against average to 9.85 for the season.

Geary made 19 saves in the two games, increasing her save percentage to .510 for the year. She ranks in the Top 25 in the nation in four different categories. The 51% saved is good for eighth in the nation, and she also ranks eighth in ground balls per game with 3.25. She's 11th in the nation in saves per game (10.0) and 24th in the nation in goals against average (9.85).

The first year goalkeeper helped ODU sweep the George Mason/James Madison games for the first time since 2003, and improved to 9-3 overall in her first year. In addition to the 19 saves this week, Geary added four ground balls and a caused turnover. She also had her first career draw control in the George Mason contest.

The Lady Monarchs will return to the field this weekend with a pair of home games against conference foes. ODU plays Hofstra on Friday, April 17 at 4:00 pm and plays host to Drexel on Sunday, April 19 at 1:00 pm.
