Norfolk, Va. - The pairings are set for the 2009 CAA Women's Tennis Championship, which will be held April 16-19 at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center on the campus of Old Dominion University. Georgia State, VCU and William & Mary round out the top three seeds, while the host Lady Monarchs enter as the No. 4 seed.
The Lady Monarchs finished the season ranked 50th nationally with an overall record of 18-6, 2-2 in the CAA. ODU managed conference victories over James Madison and UNC Wilmington, but stumbled in contests against VCU and nationally ranked William & Mary.
The Lady Monarchs feature a balanced lineup with five players recording more than 20 wins this season. Sophomore Nadine Fahoum is ODU's top singles player with an overall record of 27-8, 19-4 at No. 1 in dual competition. Charleen Haarhoff and Joanna Dobrowolska are the Lady Monarchs No. 2 and 3 singles players with 22 and 23 wins respectively.
First round action begins Thursday morning at 9 a.m. with three matches as #8 James Madison takes on #9 Towson, #7 Drexel takes on #10 Hofstra and #6 Delaware faces #11 George Mason. In Friday's quarterfinal the Lady Monarchs will look to defeat #5 UNC Wilmington to set up a possible meeting with top ranked Georgia State in a Saturday morning semifinal.
