Grand Slam In Bottom Of Ninth Lifts Georgia State To 14-13 Win

ATLANTA, GA--Georgia State (23-10/6-2)rallied for five runs in the bottom of the ninth capped off by a grand slam walk-off homerun by shortstop Chase Childers to defeat Old Dominion ( 10-19/4-7) 14,13 in a Colonial Athletic Association game Saturday. ODU had taken the lead in the top of the ninth with five runs.

Trailing 9-8, ODU scored five runs in the top of the ninth when Donnie Corsner (Virginia Beach, Va. )singled home Max Most (Port Washington, NY.) and Josh Wright (Bridgewater, VA.) hit a grand slam homer that plated Brett Harris (Chesapeake, Va.), Corsner, and Jake McAloose (Virginia Beach, VA.) for a 13-9 lead.

McAloose now leads the team with a .372 batting average, while Josh Wright andDonnie Corsner both have five homers. Corsner leads the team with 25 RBI.

The Panthers slammed six homers on the day. In the ninth Carl Moniz led off with a homer, then withone out, singles by Jonathan Kolowich, Nick Hogan and a walk to Derek Simmons set the stage forChilders game winning slam.

ODU pounded out 14 hits led by Jake McAloose with three. Max Most, Gerard Hall (Washington, DC. ), Brett Harris, Josh Wright and Chris Buss (Rosemount, MN.) each had two hits. Wright, the CAA's rookie of the week led ODU with a career high five-RBI.

The Panthers were led by Nick Hogan, Matt Van Horn and Derek Simmons with three hits each.Georgia State had 19 hits on the day.

The third and final game of the series is Sunday at 1 p.m.
