HAMPTON, Va. -- Powered by a fourth place finish in both the A division and B division, the ODU Monarchs posted a fourth place effort at the MAISA/SAISA regatta in Hampton this weekend, with 98 total points scored. A quartet of rookie sailors raced for ODU, with Gavin Rudolph and Catherine Vogel in A division and Arianna Baker with Rachel Pokorny in B division.
Rudolph and Vogel put up a 48-point performance in A division, just seven points back of a second place finish. The Monarch tandem never finished out of the top ten in the ten completed races and had one win at the event. They also had eight top five efforts and six straight to close out the regatta.
In B division, Baker and Pokorny finished out of the top ten just once and were among the best five boats in seven races. The freshmen pair scored 50 points in B division and had two second place finishes.
ODU finished 23 points behind Fordham for third place, while South Florida and the College of Charleston finished 1-2.
The 20th ranked Monarchs also finished sixth at the Aaron Szambecki Team Race this weekend.
