NORFOLK, Va. -- The Old Dominion University women's lacrosse team (4-1) returns home after a three-game road swing and will host Longwood University (6-3) on Wednesday, March 25 at 4:00 pm. ODU faces the Lancers for the first time in school history and both teams boast potent offenses. Longwood averages nearly 14 goals per game while ODU posts a 12.6 goals scored average.
ODU is led by senior Kelly Kimener in points (24), goals (17) and assists (7). Junior Ashley Kellogg is also scoring nearly four points a game, with 15 goals and four assists for 19 points. ODU has two other players in double-figure scoring after just five games, in senior Jessica Noone with nine goals and five assists, and rookie Lisa Bernardini, with 10 goals and one assist.
On defense, the back line boasts a veteran corps that rarely leaves the field. Seniors Lindsey Belle, Erica Erb, Jordan McKeon and Brittany Washko have combined for 20 caused turnovers, 17 draw controls and 19 groundballs. In goal, redshirt freshman Sarah Geary has gotten more and more comfortable as the season progresses, and boasts an 11.24 goals against average.
The Lancers are led by sophomore Karli Brentlinger, with 25 goals and three assists for 28 points. Three other Lancers are over 20 points in nine games, and seven Longwood players have scored 11 points or more. As a team, Longwood is scoring 13.78 goals per game and are outscoring opponents by over two goals per game.
Juli Liebig has played in all nine games in goal for Longwood, starting four games and has a 9.63 goals against average in just over 300 minutes of play. Eliza Coughter has also played eight games in goal, starting five and has over 228 minutes of time between the pipes for LU.
