Maryland Defeats ODU, 8-3

COLLEGE PARK, MD-- Despite ODU (5-11) home runs from Max Most and Donnie Corsner, the Terps of the University of Maryland (9-9) defeated the Monarchs, 8-3 Wednesday night. This was the second game of a home-and-home series. ODU defeated the Terps Tuesday, 10-6 in Norfolk.

In the first inning, ODU's centerfielder Max Most (Port Washington, NY. ) led the game off with a solo homer, his first of the season. Sophomore Donnie Corsner (Virginia Beach, Va. ) then singled up the middle to score Gerard Hall (Washington, DC. ) from second.

The Monarchs third run came in the eighth innings when Corsner homered to centerfield for histhird homerun of the year. Corsner, who had two hits tonight leads the team with 17 RBI. He has knocked in 14 runs in the last eight games.

Maryland had 11 hits on the night and was led by Mike Murphy with four RBI on two hits and David Poultier with three hits and two runs batted in. Both Murphy and Poultier knocked in two runsin the Maryland fourth to give the Terps the lead for good at 6-2. Curtis Lazar also had two hitsfor Maryland.

The Monarchs return to action Friday at 7 p.m. when they host George Mason to begin CAAConference play with a three-game series at the Bud Metheny Baseball Complex.
