BALTIMORE, Md. -- The ODU Lady Monarchs (3-0) powered past the UMBC Retrievers (3-4) on the road today with a 13-4 run, including nine second half goals. Old Dominion was led by senior Kelly Kimener pouring in four goals and adding three assists for a career-high seven points. Senior Jessica Noone and freshman Lisa Bernardini scored three goals each in the win. The Lady Monarchs improved to 3-0 overall and will now travel to #9 North Carolina for a game on Wednesday, March 18. Game time is set for 5:00 pm.

UMBC jumped to a three goal lead in the first half, 6-3, but Old Dominion worked its way back and were tied at six with just over three minutes left.

ODU then took its first lead of the game on a pretty goal from Kimener to junior leading scorer Ashley Kellogg. Kimener received a pass behind the net and then drew the defense to the left side while Kellogg cut into the scoring area from the right. Kimener caught Kellogg in stride and buried it for the go-ahead score and the halftime lead, 7-6.

The Retrievers wasted no time tying it back up in the second half though, scoring just 26 seconds into the frame. ODU answered with a pair of goals within 24 seconds of eachother from Nicole McMahon and Noone, but UMBC tied it back up at nine apiece with back-to-back goals.

The Lady Monarchs would pull away with a 5-0 run in the next 12 minutes. Kimener scored a nifty goal as the UMBC defender tried to turn and pass the ball back to the keeper, but Kimener intercepted, turned and fired into the back of the net for the score. Rookie Lisa Bernardini capped the run with a goal in the 48th minute.

Bernardini would score two more in the final 2:02 for the final count of 16 goals, as ODU rolled out a 13-4 run against UMBC.

Redshirt freshman Sarah Geary stepped up big in the waning minutes, facing several one-on-one shots from UMBC. Geary dropped to her knees and made a terrific save on one of the shots, and turned away three free-position attempts.

UMBC was led by three players with three points each. Ashley Stodter scored three goals, Bria Phillips had two scores and an assist while Kara Dorr had one goal and two helpers.

Kimener not only set a career-high in points with seven, but she also tied her career high in draw controls with five in the game. She also joined the career top ten in points, goals scored and assists. Senior defender Lindsey Belle caused a team-high four turnovers and had three groundballs, while grabbing three draws.

ODU now heads to nationally ranked ACC foe, North Carolina, for a showdown in Chapel Hill on Wednesday, March 18. The game is set for 5:00 pm against the #9 ranked Tarheels.
