Hilton Head Island, S.C. - The Old Dominion University's women's tennis team fell to 17th ranked North Carolina 5-2 on Wednesday in a non-conference match at the Port Royal Racquet Club in Hilton Head, S.C.
The Tarheels jumped out to a 1-0 lead by sweeping all three doubles matches, two of which featured top 100 tandems. At No. 1, fourth ranked Sanaz Marand and Sophie Grabinski defeated the Lady Monarchs 34th ranked tandem of Nadine Fahoum and Charleen Haarhoff, 8-1, while at No. 2 UNC's 47th ranked duo of Katrina Tsang and Austin Smith downed Irina Dementyeva and Joanna Dobrowolska 8-4.
In singles action, ODU managed just two victories at No. 2 and No. 3 respectively. Ranked 105th, Haarhoff defeated Smith 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2, while Dobrowolska upended Laura Reichert 6-2, 4-6, 7-5.
The Lady Monarchs are off until March 21 when they'll return to conference play at home against UNC Wilmington.
