NORFOLK, VA.-- Junior forward Gerald Lee scored19 points and hauled in 11 boards while Frank Hassell scored 17 with nine rebounds to lead theMonarchs (14-8/7-5) to a 71-62 CAA victory overTowson Tuesday night. It was the Monarchs third straight victory. ODU now leadsHofstra by a half game as the Pride lost to George Mason tonight.
The Monarchs led by as much as 10 points in the first half, 34-24 with 1:50 left butthe Tigers ralleyd and cut the lead to four, 34-30 at the buzzer on a tip in byCalvin Lee.
The Monarchs re-took the lead for good, 53-51 with 7:49 left on a layup by FrankHassell.
The 17 points by Frank Hassell was the second most points he has scored in agame this season. Hassell hit seven-ofeight from the floor tonight. For Gerald Lee, he picks up his second double-double of the season and fifth of his career. Lee has now scored 65 points for ODU in the last three games.
Marsharee Neely and Keyon Carter both scored 10 points tonight.
ODU dominated the boards with Lee hauling down 11 and Hassell nine. Keyon Carter,Marsharee Neely and Jonathan Adams each grabbed five to add to ODU's 46-31 edge.
Towson was led by Jarrel Smith with 14 points, while Robert Nwankwo scored 13 points and hauled down 13 boards along with five blocked shots. It was hisfirst career double-double. Troy Franklin came off the bench to score 12 points andcome up with five steals.
ODU hits the road to Philadelphia to play Drexel on Saturday at 7 p.m., theHofstra on Tuesday night in New York.
