Richmond, Va. – The Old Dominion University’s women’s tennis team saw its eight-match winning streak come to a halt on Wednesday afternoon, as the 57th ranked Lady Monarchs fell to 36th ranked VCU 6-1, at the Thalhimer Tennis Center in Richmond. With the victory the Rams improved to 9-4, while the Lady Monarchs fell to 10-3.
The Lady Monarchs 29th ranked doubles team of Nadine Fahoum and Charleen Haarhoff got off to a solid start, just getting past Ana Bara and Alex Bara in a 9-8(4) tiebreaker at No. 1. However, VCU captured the doubles point with a 9-7 win at No. 2 and an 8-2 victory at No. 3.
With three nationally ranked players on their roster, the Rams dominated the singles competition by winning five of the six matches. Fahoum, the Lady Monarchs only ranked played at No. 108, registered ODU’s only singles victory on the day. After dropping the first set to 105th ranked Ana Bara, Fahoum rebounded to come away with the 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 1.
ODU returns to action on Saturday when the Lady Monarchs will host Winthrop at 10 a.m. and UMBC at 4 p.m.
