CHARLESTON, S.C. -- The 11th ranked ODU co-ed sailing team took the water for the first time in 2009 this weekend at the Charleston Spring Invitational. The Monarchs are in 17th place after six races on day one of the spring season opener. Thomas O'Bryan led the B division boat as skipper, to a 15th place effort and 87 points. Katrina Williams skippered the A division boat to a 17th place finish and 93 points after six races.
ODU totaled 180 points on the first day, finishing in 17th place overall. The light wind conditions allowed for just six races in each division on Saturday. The remainder of the regatta is set for Sunday.
Williams sailed with freshman crew Rachel Pokorny in A division and finished with one top ten effort on the day. O'Bryan paired with freshman Arianna Baker and grabbed a team-high eighth place finish in the third heat.
