McAloose Leads ODU Over Marshall, 9-5

WINSTON-SALEM, NC--Jake McAloose (Virginia Beach, VA.) had three hits and three runs batted in to lead the Monarchs of Old Dominion (1-1) to a 9-5 victory over Marshall (2-1) in the Wake Forest Baseball Invitational Saturday morning. ODU will play tournament host Wake Forest Saturday night at 6 p.m.

McAloose hit his first homerun of the season with Max Most (Port Washington, NY.) aboard to give the Monarchs a 2-1 lead In the bottom of the first inning. In the second inning Austin Wright (Virginia Beach, VA.) doubled in Joshua Wright (Bridgewater, VA>) to give the Monarchs a 3-1 lead.

With the score tied at 3-3 in the fourth inning, ODU erupted for five runs in the bottom of the fourth.

Joshua Wright scored on a double by John Malbon (Virginia Beach, Va.) to start the scoring. Malbon scored on a throwing error, Austin Wright, and Gerard Hall (Washington, DC.) then scored on a fielding error, Jake McAloose then scored on a an RBI groundout by Joe Velleggia. McAloose also singled home Most in the eighth inning.

Monarch freshman righthander Brett Harris (Chesapeake, Va.) pitched seven innings for his first collegiate win. Harris fanned one, walked two and scattered seven hits. Brady Burchill (Hope, ND) pitched the final two innings.

Austin Wright had two hits for ODU, while Max Most, Josh Wright and Jake McAloose each scored twice.

Marshall, who beat the Monarchs Friday night were led by Thor Meeks with two RBI and a home and Nate Lape with two hits on the day which also included a home run.
