Norfolk, Va. - With victories over James Madison and Maryland last week, the Old Dominion University women's tennis team jumped up five spots in this week's Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings, moving up from No. 64 to No. 59.
The Lady Monarchs are off to a 9-2 start and currently riding a seven-match winning streak which began with a win at then No. 36 North Carolina State back on Jan. 24. In addition to the team's winning streak, Nadine Fahoum, Irina Dementyeva and Joanna Dobrowolska also have individual seven-match winning streaks. Fahoum, the 2008 CAA Rookie of the Year, is ranked 108th in the latest polls after getting off to a 10-1 start this spring at the No. 1 singles position. Dobrowolska and Dementyeva have identical 9-2 marks in dual matches, playing primarily at No. 3 and No. 5 respectively.
In doubles play, Fahoum teams up with senior Charleen Haarhoff to form one of the top duos on the country. The pair is currently ranked 29th by the ITA with a combined record of 20-6, 6-2 this spring in dual matches.
