College Park, Md. – The ODU women’s tennis team won its seventh consecutive dual match Sunday morning, defeating the Maryland Terrapins 5-2 at the Tennis Center at College Park. The Lady Monarchs won seven of the nine matches played to improve to 9-2 on the year, while the Terrapins fell to 1-4.
The 64th ranked Lady Monarchs won the doubles point with a sweep of all three matches. Nadine Fahoum and Charleen Haarhoff, ranked 40th in the ITA rankings, defeated Maryland’s Michal Amir and Lisa Miller 8-3 at No. 1. At No. 2, Joanna Dobrowolska and Irina Dementyeva came away with an 8-4 win over Maggie MacKeever and Eleanor Peters, while Margarita Spicin and Marija Citic won by the same score at No. 3 over the Terrapin duo of Karin Lundmark and Oksana Krutiyenko.
In singles action, Fahoum and Dementyeva recorded straight sets victories at No. 1 and No. 5 respectively, extending their winning streak to seven matches. Haarhoff went three sets with Lundmark at No. 2, coming away with the 7-5, 2-6, 7-5 victory, while at No. 3 Dobrowolska came from a set down to defeat Peters, 6-7 (1), 7-5, 10-5.
The Lady Monarchs return to the courts on Saturday, Feb. 21 when they host the Temple Owls at the Folkes-Stevens Indoor Tennis Center.
