Norfolk, Va. - Old Dominion University's men's and women's tennis teams found themselves listed among the top programs in the country today with the latest release of the national rankings by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). The Lady Monarchs were ranked 64th overall, down one spot from last week, while the men's team entered the rankings for the first time this season at No. 74.
Winners of five in a row, the Lady Monarchs have a record of 7-2 on the year, including wins over No. 36 North Carolina State and #68 Wisconsin. They are led by sophomore Nadine Fahoum, the reigning Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Rookie of the Year, who has a record of 8-1 this spring while playing at the No. 1 position. In addition to Fahoum, the women's team features a deep lineup with Irina Dementyeva, Joanna Dobrowolska and Margarita Spicin all having records of 7-2 this spring.
In doubles play, Fahoum and senior Charleen Haarhoff are the 40th ranked team in the country with an overall mark of 18-6 this year.
On the men's side, the Monarchs currently have an overall record of 7-5 after dropping their last three matches. However, they did knock off No. 55 St. Mary's 5-2 last week to help vault them into the rankings. Like the women's team, the Monarchs feature a top ranked doubles squad in the 43rd ranked tandem of Aleksandr Seleznev and Tobias Fanselow. Together they are 4-0 in the spring and 9-3 overall this season.
Individually, Seleznev and Fanselow are the Monarchs top two players as well, playing at No. 1 and No. 2 respectively. Seleznev is 7-3 in dual matches this spring, while Fanselow is 8-3 including two victories at No. 1.
