HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (AP) - Charles Jenkins scored 15 points and Hofstra had a season-high 13 blocked shots in a 60-51 victory over Old Dominion on Tuesday night, snapping the Monarchs' four-game winning streak.
Junior forward-center Gerald Lee led the Monarchs with a game high 20 points andseven rebounds. Frank Hassell came off the bench to add 15 points.Lee has scored 108 points in his last five games. He is now averaging 15.3 pointsper game and 6.8 rebunds per game.
Nathaniel Lester had 11 points and 10 rebounds for the Pride (16-9, 8-6 Colonial Athletic Association), who came in leading the conference with 5.1 blocks per game. The 13 blocks were one off the school record set twice and were three better than the previous best this season against Stony Brook.
The Monarchs (15-9, 8-6), who never recovered from shooting 20.6 percent (7-for-34) in the first half as they fell behind 28-19.
Old Dominion, which entered fourth in the CAA in shooting at 44.5 percent, finished at 27.5 percent (19-for-69). Hofstra came in leading the conference in field-goal percentage defense (39.4 percent).
ODU got within six of the Pride five times in the last six minutes of the gamebut were unable to get any closer.
Hofstra's 13 blocked shots is a new ODU Opponent record, breaking the mark of12 set by Virginia on Nov. 16, 1994.
Keyon Carter led the Monarchs with three steals, while Darius James led withfive assists. Carter was seven-of 12 from the floor. He is now averageing 8.5 pointsper game.
The Monarchs return home to host VCU on Saturday at 2 p.m. The game is sold out.
