NORFOLK, Va. -- After just ten days of practice, the Lady Monarchs took the field in exhibition action against the Welsh National Team and won, 7-5. Old Dominion got three goals from senior Kelly Kimener, including the gamewinner, and four other Lady Monarchs scored in the international scrimmage.

Wales got out in front with the first tally when Laura Warren found Kari Jones just under seven minutes into the match. ODU would answer with a pair to take the lead, but Warren added a second assist to even the match at two apiece when Tash Garland cashed in with 16:49 remaining in the first.

The teams would go back and forth for the next seven goals, as ODU would take the lead, but Wales would answer to tie. Old Dominion got goals from Katie Bruno, Kelly Kimener, Ashley Kellogg and Saratu Dodo in the stretch. Then, with just under 11 minutes remaining in the game, ODU got what would prove to be the eventual gamewinner from Kimener, off an assist by rookie Lisa Bernardini.

ODU sophomore Clara Flanagan would add the insurance goal with 3:53 remaining off a Dodo assist and the Lady Monarchs held the ball for most of the remainder, taking the 7-5 win.

The Lady Monarchs were led by senior Kelly Kimener, with three goals, and junior Saratu Dodo, with a goal and an assist. Wales got two scores apiece from Kari Jones and Tash Garland, while Warren posted the two helpers in the first half.

Defensively, redshirt freshman Sarah Geary allowed just five goals and made six saves, while causing a team-high four turnovers in her first collegiate action. In front of her, Jordan McKeon hauled in four ground balls while causing three turnovers.

The Lady Monarchs will continue pre-season training until the regular season opener on February 28 at the Powhatan Sports Complex against American University. The game is set for 1:00 pm. All eight of the Lady Monarchs regular season home games will be at the brand new facility.
