Men's Tennis Earns Two National Rankings

Jan. 7, 2009

Norfolk, Va. – Old Dominion University’s Tobias Fanselow will begin the 2009 spring tennis season ranked 81st nationally by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).  The Monarchs doubles team of Fanselow and Aleksandr Seleznev, will also begin the season ranked 43rd.

Fanselow kicked off his sophomore season this fall by posting an 8-5 record, including two victories over opponents ranked in the ITA’s preseason poll.  As a freshman last season, he earned second team All-CAA honors after registering a mark of 18-14 while playing primarily at the No. 3 position.

As a doubles team, Fanselow and Seleznev went 5-3 during the fall season, with a win over the 45th ranked team of Chirico and Spencer of Texas A&M at the ITA All-American Tournament.  Playing alongside different partners last year, Seleznev was a second team all-conference selection in doubles and Fanselow a third team selection, but this season the duo comes together to form the Monarchs top pair.

ODU opens its spring season on Jan. 17 at home with a tripleheader against George Washington, Liberty and Norfolk State.
