Durham, N.C. – The Old Dominion University women’s tennis team suffered its second consecutive loss to an ACC opponent Friday night with a 7-0 loss at No. 9 Duke. The Lady Monarchs who fell at No. 41 Virginia on Wednesday are now 2-2, while the Blue Devils sit at 1-0. With the win the Blue Devils improved to 6-0 all-time against the Lady Monarchs.
The Blue Devils opened by sweeping all three doubles matches to win the point. Highlighting the doubles competition was the matchup between Duke’s 20th ranked team of Amanda Granson and Melissa Mang and ODU’s 40th ranked team of Nadine Fahoum and Charleen Haarhoff. The Blue Devils came out on top by a score of 8-4 to close out doubles play.
With three players ranked in the top 56 in the country, the Blue Devils won all six matches in straight sets. Forty-third ranked Ellah Nze defeated Fahoum 6-1, 6-4, at No. 1, 48th ranked Granson edged ODU’s Margarita Spicin 7-5, 6-3 at No. 3, and at No. 4, 56th ranked Reka Zsilinszka cruised past Joanna Dobrowolska.
The Lady Monarchs continue their ACC swing on Saturday with a 1 p.m. meeting at North Carolina State.
