Charlottesville, Va. – The Old Dominion University women’s tennis team earned two victories over ranked opponents on Wednesday, but it wasn’t enough as the Lady Monarchs fell to No. 41 Virginia 6-1 at the Boar’s Head Sports Club in Charlottesville.
The Lady Monarchs got off to a strong start in doubles play with the 40th ranked duo of Nadine Fahoum and Charleen Haarhoff defeating UVA’s 32nd ranked pair of Emily Fraser and Jennifer Stevens, 8-4. However, the Cavaliers won at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to secure the doubles point.
In singles action, Fahoum registered the only victory for ODU with her come from behind victory over 42nd ranked Stevens at No. 1. Stevens cruised to a 6-0 win in the first set before Fahoum found her rhythm, winning the final two sets by a score of 6-2, 6-2.
ODU returns to action on Friday, when the Lady Monarchs travel to No. 9 Duke.
