Norfolk, Va. – Old Dominion University Athletic Director Jim Jarrett and head football coach Bobby Wilder announced today that the Monarchs have added Fordham University of the Patriot League to the 2009 football schedule. ODU will travel to Fordham on Oct. 3 for one of the Monarchs four road games in 2009.
The game against the 2007 conference championship Rams replaces the Monarchs original contest with Iona, who announced in November that the university would no longer sponsor football.
Game times for the Monarchs seven home contests were also announced today. All games will kickoff at 6 p.m., with the exception of the Nov. 7 homecoming finale against North Carolina Central, which will begin at 2 p.m.
“We’re excited to play at night under the lights,” added Coach Wilder. “We know that the atmosphere will be great no matter what time we play, but night games add to the excitement that much more, particularly for the players.”
Wilder tentatively released the 2010 schedule as well, a slate that includes home games against Jacksonville, William & Mary, Gardner-Webb, Georgia State, Savannah State and VMI. The Monarchs will hit the road to complete home-and-home scheduling obligations with trips to Campbell, Monmouth, Presbyterian, and Georgetown.
“Our goal was to schedule 11 FCS (Football Championship Subdivision) games for 2010,” said Wilder. “We have 10 games scheduled right now and are planning on adding one more home game which will also be against a FCS opponent.”
