A weekly Q&A with an Old Dominion University football player
Defensive Back
Freshman
Washington, D.C.
When did you begin playing football?
I began playing football when I was four years old. I started playing pop warner football when I was seven.
Who has had the greatest impact on your career?
There has been more than one person who has had a great impact on my career. Starting with my parents, my high school coaches especially John Nabinett, Avery Williams, Wayne Johnson and Greg Fuller. Jerry Wilson, my best friend Dion Guy’s grandfather, and his father Kerry Wilson.
Why did you choose to attend ODU?
I choose ODU because the coaching staff was honest and upfront with me. Also being a part of history, the campus and possibly leaving with a masters degree.
What has been the biggest difference between high school football and college football?
The main difference between high school football and college is the speed of the game. Also the complexity of the playbook because you are asked to do so many things in one play.
What has it been the best part about being a member of ODU's first football team in over 60 years?
Everything from practice to the meetings. Coach Wilder's quotes, Coach Rondeau's quotes also and especially Coach Scott's SSSSOOO SSSSOOOFFFTTT always make me laugh.
If you could play another position what would it be and why?
I would play receiver because I would like to be the one who is scoring the touchdowns for once.
Favorite sports other than your own?
Basketball
After meeting your position coach for the first time, what were your thoughts?
I thought he was a special person who really wants to help ODU football be the best that it can be and won’t settle for less.
Do you have a pre-game ritual, if so what is it?
No not really I don’t have an mp3 or IPod so I move around listening to others people stuff and maybe have an energy drink but besides that I’m just relaxing and getting focused.
What is your funniest memory from an ODU practice this far?
There is always something funny that happens everyday but the first time was when Coach Wilder told everyone " Get a piece of that" after the defense got a turnover. Also the signals he does after he says it.
If you could line up opposite any player in the NFL and go 1-on-1, who would it be and why?
Randy Moss because he is a freak of nature and not many can stop him.
What song is stuck in your head right now?
Ransom by Lil Wayne
What is one thing people would be surprised to learn about you?
I can do a back flip and I use to dance when I was younger.
What is your dream job?
Playing in the NFL for the Oakland Raiders or being a big time sports agent who has all of the top clients.
What is your most valued possession?
Necklace my mother gave me with 4 rings that represent my family so I wont forget about them.
What is your favorite place to eat on campus?
The Cafe especially the hibachi, I get rice and chicken with sesame all the time.
