Monarchs Win Seventh Straight, 80-50 Over Winston-Salem

NORFOLK, VA--The Old Dominion University Monarchs (8-3) rolled to their seventh straight win with a 80-50 victory over Winston-Salem State (3-8) Saturday night at the Ted Constant Convocation Center. All 11 Monarchs who played scored led by Gerald Lee's 18 points while Jonathan Adams hauled down a game high nine rebounds tonight.

The Rams led 4-3 after a free throw by Jamal Durham, then Darius James and Ben Finney connected for two straight treys and ODU was off to the races. The Monarchs led 20-4 with 13:57 left in the first half and by as much as 22, 35-13 with 5:28 left. ODU took a 40-25 halftime as Ben Finney led with nine points, Lee had eight and Kent Bazemore hauled down six rebounds.

The Monarch shot .500 (16-32) from the floor to WSSU's .242 (8-33). ODU would outscored the Rams, 40-25 in the second half. For the game, three Monarchs scored in double figures. Besides Lee's 18, Ben Finney added 13 points along with seven rebounds and Darius James scored 11 points with six assists.

Following Adams' nine boards,Ben Finney and Kent Bazemore each hauled down seven.ODU finished the night shooting .491 (28-57) from the field, while Winston-Salem was .354 (16-63). ODU hauled down a season high 51 rebounds and dished out a season high 23 assists.

Freshman Marquel De Lancey scored a career high five points off the bench and freshman forward Chris Cooper came off the bench to score a career high four points and haul down A career high five rebounds. The Monarchs blocked seven shots on the night led Frank Hassell with three.

Winston-Salem was led by Brian Fisher with 15 points, five assists and seven rebounds while Paul Davis led the Rams with four blocked shots.

The Monarchs return to CAA play beginning Saturday in Atlanta against Georgia State at 4 p.m.
