NORFOLK, Va. -- The #21 Old Dominion wrestling Monarchs head to a pair of premiere tournaments on Monday, as some of the team will participate in the Southern Scuffle at UNC Greensboro and some will be at the Midlands Wrestling Championships at Northwestern. Four Monarchs are pre-seeded headed into the Midlands tournament, including a team-high three-seed at 125 lbs for redshirt sophomore James Nicholson and three are pre-seeded at the Scuffle.
Old Dominion wrestlers heading to Northwestern for the Midlands Wrestling Championship include 2008 All-American Nicholson and NCAA Qualifiers Kyle Hutter (133 lbs), seeded seventh, Ryan Williams (141 lbs), seeeded eighth, and Jesse Strawn (197 lbs), seeded eighth.
The tournament is at the Welsh-Ryan Arena in Evanston, Illinois and will begin at 9:30 am on Monday morning. The final session will be aired on the Big Ten Network on Tuesday night at 7:00 pm.
ODU has three seeded at the Southern Scuffle, which will also be Monday and Tuesday. Kaylen Baxter is the seven seed at 149 lbs, Eric Decker is the eight seed at 174 lbs and rookie Joe Budi will be the eight seed at 184 lbs.
