NORFOLK, VA-- The ODU Monarchs (6-3), winners of five straight host the Hawks of Maryland-Eastern Shore (1-6) tonight at 7 p.m. in the Constant Center.
UMES is coached by Frankie Allen who is in his first year at the school. Allen whoalso was the head coach at Virginia Tech from 1987-91 still remains the all-time leading scorer (2780) and rebounder(1758) in Virginia Collegiate history. He wasan All-American at Roanoke College.
The Hawks are led in scoring by Neal Pitt at 15.4 points per game, followed by Keishawn Mayes at 11.0 points and 6.9 rebounds.
ODU and UMES have met five times with the Monarchs leading the series, 5-0 includinglast year's, 74-49 win.
Gerald Lee leads ODU in scoring at 14.9 points per game, field goal percentage at .603 and free throw percentage at .864. Ben Finney is second on the team inscoring at 9.7 and leads with 6.7 rebounds per game.
ODU has eight players averaging between 6.2 points per game and 14.9. Darius Jamesis averaging 9.1 points per game with 3.8 assists, while Keyon Carter is averaging9.0 points per game.
ODU breaks for Xmas after tonight, then returns home on Dec. 30th to play Winston-Salem State University Rams.
