DAVIDSON, N.C. -- The Old Dominion men's and women's swimming and diving teams return to the pool this weekend at the Davidson Invitational.
Last season the Monarch men's swimming and diving team claimed the 2007 Davidison Invitational title, while both the men's and women's swimming and diving teams broke eight Davidison Invitational meet records over the weekend. Among the returning Lady Monarchs to set invite records were April Barrientos (Va. Beach, Va.) and Hannah Kess (Windsor, Canada) along with Kevin Latimer (Newport News, Va.) on the men's side.
The men's squad took first place with 953 points, 343 points higher than second place College of Charleston (610). The Gardner-Webb women's team won the 2007 Davidson Invitational with 800, followed by Old Dominion in second place with 622 points.
Old Dominion set eight new meet records over the weekend led by April Barrientos and Hannah Kess with two on the women's side and Patrik Balint and Kevin Latimer with two new records on the men's side.
The Old Dominion men's team enters the invitational having collected a 3-0 mark thus far in 2008-09 with a pair of victories over William & Mary, as well as a win over Drexel. The Old Dominion women's enter the invite with a 2-3 overall mark with wins over CAA rivals Northeastern and Drexel.
