PHILADELPHIA, PA--Steffen Rabben (Valdrew, Norway) scored two goals to lead the Monarchs of Old Dominion (9-6-2/6-3-1) to a 2-1 Colonial Athletic Association victory over Drexel (6-6-5/4-3-3) Saturday evening. The victory keeps the Monarchs hold on second place in the CAA with one game to play, as William and Mary andNortheastern tied each other tonight in Boston.
The Monarchs leading scorer put ODU in front in the first half with a shot to the left of the goalkeeper on an assist from Nane Joseph (Cameroon) . In the second half, Rabben put the Monarchs up 2-0 as he taps one passed the keeper. Rabben nowhas seven goals on the season.
Drexel cut into the Monarch lead with less than three minutes left as Cole Feffer scored on an assist from Andrew Goldberg and Anthony Bafile.
The Monarchs dominated the offensive end, outshooting the Dragons, 20-7 overall and 10-4 on shots on goal. ODU's sophomore keeper Brennan Kirkpatrick (Shreveport, LA.) had three saves on the night, while Alex Reber had eight saves for Drexel.
UNCW also lost tonight, so the Monarchs are only two points out of first place.
ODU finishes the regular season on Friday night when they host George Mason at 7p.m.
