NORFOLK, Va. -- The Old Dominion women's basketball made its first appearance on the hardwood this season in the annual Blue-White Game at the Ted Constant Convocation Center Sunday afternoon. The Lady Monarchs, coming off a 31-5 season and an appearance in the "Sweet 16" a year ago, welcomed back eight letterwinners and six newcomers. They were led in scoring by junior Jessica Canady (Williamsburg, Va.), who totaled 14 points on the afternoon.

Canady, the returning Colonial Athletic Association leader in field goal percentage shot 6-of-12 from the field as one of four Lady Monarchs to reach double digits in the annual scrimmage. Sophomore Shadasia Green (Patterson, N.J.) added in 13, while both newcomer Mairi Buchan (Stirlingshire, Scotland) and sophomore Jasmine Parker (Norfolk, Va.) collected 11 points.

Green and Canady also led all Lady Monarchs in rebounding. Both nearly missed a double-double by hauling in nine boards apiece.

Point guards Jazzmin Walters (Norfolk, Va.), the CAA leader in assists last season, and Jen Nuzzo (Newport News, Va.) dished out the ball five times each.

The Blue-White game started with freshmen Margaret Harvey (Greensboro, N.C.) and Mairi Buchan, sophomore Shadasia Green, and seniors Tiffany Green (Chesapeake, Va.) and Jen Nuzzo starting on the white squad and Jessica Canady, freshman Pryncess Tate-Dublin (Suitland, Md.), sophomores Sierra Little (Greensboro, N.C.) and Jasmine Parker, and senior Jazzmin Walters on the blue team.

In the first half of action, Buchan made her Lady Monarch debut with nine points in helping her white team squad to a 23-15 advantage. Shadasia Green added in six points and six boards for the white team. The blue squad saw Canady add in six of her game-high 14.

The second half saw the blue squad outscore their teammates, 26-21. Parker led the blue team with nine points, while Canady collected eight, and each grabbed four rebounds apiece. Walters dished out four assists as well. The blue team was led by Shadasia Green in the second half with seven points and sophomore transfer Tia Lewis (Poulan, Ga.) with four points and four boards.

The Old Dominion women's basketball team has a pair of exhibition games on its slate before opening up the 2008-09 regular season at the World Vision Classic hosted by the University of Texas. The Lady Monarchs will take on the University of D.C. on Monday, November 3rd and Shaw University of Monday, November 10th. Both games will tip-off at 7:00 p.m.
