NORFOLK, Va. -- Led by freshman skipper Gavin Rudolph and crew Jessica Milligan in B division, the ODU Blue team finished third at the MAISA Fall Open. The ODU Silver team finished sixth in the event as well, but the Blue team paced ODU with a finish just six points back of the winner.
Rudolph and Milligan won the B division sailing by two points ahead of Navy. The tandem finished out of the top three boats only once, with a fourth place finish, and scored four wins. Their score is actually deceiving, even despite the win, because the pair had a 13-point DNF to start the regatta and still managed to win.
The A division boat for ODU Blue also managed three wins and were among the top three boats in eight of the 12 completed races. Freshmen Drew Hall and Kyle Hanson sailed in A division for ODU Blue, finishing third with 37 total points.
The ODU Silver team was paced by the fifth place A division boat. Zach Kelchner and Michael Komar skippered the boat and tallied 61 points. Kelchner had two third place finishes while Komar's best efforts were a pair of fourth place finishes to close out the regatta.
The B division boat of Arianna Baker and Rachel Pokorny sailed to a sixth place finish with 67 total points. The pair had a second place finish and a third place finish, and were worse than seventh just once all weekend.
