NORFOLK, Va. -- Continuing play against ACC rivals, the Old Dominion field hockey team dropped a 2-1 contest to No. 5 Duke on Sunday afternoon at the Powhatan Sports Complex. Rookie Rachel Stream (Poolesville, Md.) tied the game at 1-1 at the 20 minute mark, however the Blue Devils scored the only goal in the second half for the victory.

The loss, the Lady Monarchs' fourth straight, drops them to 6-10 overall with two weeks left to the regular season. All of Old Dominion's 10 losses have come at the hands of Top 20 teams. The Blue Devils, meanwhile, upped their overall mark to 12-3.

The Blue Devils struck first, scoring six minutes into the contest. Amie Survilla took a long pass and raced into the circle to the left post, where she scored her team-leading 10th goal of the season.

Old Dominion tied the game at 1-1 at the 20 minute mark as Stream scored her first collegiate goal. Sophomore Amanda Bieber (Elizabethtown, Pa.), unable to find the opening in front of the Duke cage among a swarm of defenders, passed off to Stream at the left post. Stream found the gap for the score.

The game remained tied at 1-1 until the 53rd minute of action. Laura Suchoski had a hard blast from near the top of the circle to collect the game-winner.

Senior netminder Kelly Driscoll (West Chester, Pa.) posted eight saves in the loss, brining her season total to 105 on the year. Samantha Nelson made three saves in the Blue Devil victory.

On the stat sheet, Old Dominion was outshot 16-6 and outcornered 12-4.

Two weeks remain in the regular season. The Lady Monarchs get back to Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) action on Saturday, October 25th against league leader James Madison and will take on Virginia Commonwealth on Sunday, October 26th.
