ABOUT OLD DOMINION: The Lady Monarchs enter this weekend's competition with a 6-8 overall mark having dropped their last two matches, a 3-0 shutout by No. 16 Drexel and 3-2 loss to No. 15 California. Old Dominion will be meeting Maryland and Duke for the second time this season as they close out the home-and-home series. Senior Katelyn Smither, who captured an assist in Wednesday's loss to the Golden Bears, continues to lead Old Dominion in scoring. The senior defender has logged five goals and assists for a total of 11 points. Sophomore Loren Hatch is second on the stat sheet with two goals, three assists, and seven points. Senior Kelly Driscoll, who made eight saves in Wednesday's game with California, has totaled 95 stops on the year along with a 1.97 goals against average and .785 save percentage.

THINK PINK: Fans are encouraged to wear pink as the Old Dominion field hockey team honors breast cancer awareness month. Both the Lady Monarchs and Terps will be sporting pink uniforms from Under Armour. Additionally, the Tidewater Chapter of the Susan G. Komen Foundation will be on hand to pass out information on breast cancer awareness and the Old Dominion chapter of Zeta Tau Alpha will hand out pink ribbons in honor those who have battled and are battling the disease. The team's pink Under Amour jerseys will be auctioned to the public in a silent auction throughout the game. All proceeds from the auction will benefit the Susan G. Komen for the Cure organization for breast cancer research.

ABOUT MARYLAND: The Terps, ranked second nationally, enter Friday night's game with a 12-2 overall mark and 3-1 record in the ACC having won four straight. Susie Rowe leads all Terp scorers with 42 points coming from 17 goals and eight assists. Katie O'Donnell has captured 13 goals, 14 assists, and 40 points as Maryland's second leading scorer. Both Rowe and O'Donnell are ranked in the top five nationally in points per game and top ten nationally in goals per game. Alicia Grater will be in the cage along with her 0.86 goals against average and .797 save percentage.

LAST TIME VS. MARYLAND: Old Dominion fell 8-1 to No. 2 Maryland back on September 5th of this year. Senior Katelyn Smither scored the lone goal for the Lady Monarchs. Maryland built a 3-0 lead in the first half before Smither broke Old Dominion onto the scoreboard in the game's 30th minute of play. The Terps would score once more before ending the first half up 4-1. Old Dominion was outshot 21-6 and outcornered 5-3. Senior netminder Kelly Driscoll made five saves. Maryland's Alicia Grater allowed the lone ODU goal and recorded two stops.

ALL-TIME VS. MARYLAND: Old Dominion holds a slight edge in the all-time series with a 22-21-1 record against the Terps. Old Dominion will be looking to snap a seven-game Terp win streak against the Lady Monarchs. Old Dominion's last victory was during the 2005 season where they handed the second-ranked Terps a 4-1 loss in College Park.

ABOUT DUKE: Duke, ranked at No. 5 in the NFHCA Poll, will take on William & Mary before coming to Norfolk to meet the Lady Monarchs. The Blue Devils are currently 10-3 overall and 2-2 in the ACC, having won their last four games. Amie Survilla leads Duke with eight goals for 16 points. Susan Ferger is second on the squad in scoring at six goals, an assist, and 13 points. In goal, Samantha Nelson is holding a 1.07 goals against average, sixth in the nation, and .655 save percentage.

LAST TIME VS. DUKE: The Lady Monarchs were edged out 1-0 by No. 9 Duke back on September 21st. The Old Dominion field hockey team allowed just one goal by No. 9 Duke Sunday afternoon, but it would be the only tally the Blue Devils would need as they shutout the Lady Monarchs, 1-0. The Blue Devil goal came in the game's 57th minute of action when Marian Dickinson took a feed along the right side of the circle from Susie Ferger into the left side of the cage for the score. Kelly Driscoll made seven saves in the loss. Her counterpart, Ali Comolli, made two stops. Duke outshot Old Dominion, 18-6. Katelyn Smither led the way with three shots, two of them on goal.

ALL-TIME SERIES WITH DUKE: Old Dominion holds an 18-9 series lead with the Blue Devils having won the last two meetings.

IN THE POLLS - NFHCA: Old Dominion enters the week unranked in the NFHCA Top 20 Poll. Eight Lady Monarch's opponents are currently ranked in the poll's Top 20 with three other opponents receiving votes. Members of this week's Top 10 that grace the ODU schedule including No. 1 Syracuse, No. 2 Maryland, No. 5 Duke, No. 6 James Madison, No. 7 North Carolina, and No. 10 Penn State.

NEARING THE HALF CENTURY MARK: Head coach Beth Anders enters this week's games with a 498-100-7 overall record, needing just two victories to become the first Division I coach and second field hockey coach overall to reach the 500 win milestone.
