NORFOLK, Va. -- The ODU women's soccer team (11-2-1/4-1-1) remained unbeaten at home this season with a 3-0 shutout victory over Northeastern (7-6-1/3-3-0). Junior Jodi Knorowski knocked home her first goal of the season and added an assist on senior Katie Watson's team-leading ninth goal of the year. Sophomore Ashley Kukura scored the gamewinner in the 59th minute of play and senior Lauren Tupman notched her eighth shutout on the season.

The two teams played to a scoreless tie through the first half, with Old Dominion putting some pressure on the Northeastern defense, outshooting the Huskies 10-3 in the frame. ODU would just miss on a few opportunities, including a shot from Watson that glanced off the left post late in the half.

In the second half, though, ODU's offense came alive with three goals from three different players. Senior Janna Pearson took a corner kick, one of 12 in the game for ODU, in the 59th minute of play. Senior Elizabeth Brewster headed the ball into the crossbar for a shot, which deflected right to the feet of Kukura who scooted it in for the goal. It was her third goal of the season and first gamewinner.

In the 65th minute, ODU would score the first of two insurance goals, on a nifty pass play from Knorowski to Watson. On the left side of the field, Watson sealed her defender off to the inside and Knorowski pushed a pass up to her, ahead of the defensive line. Watson took one touch before sending a shot over the sliding keeper into the near corner.

The final goal for ODU came off a long pass from Brewster, her second assist of the night. Brewster sent a pass approximately 50 yards up the field, crossing it to Knorowski who was able to make a run past all the defenders. In a one-on-one with the keeper, the junior midfielder poked it by for her first goal of the season.

Northeastern struggled to get offensive chances and was led by Liza Rebello with just two shots, one on-goal. In goal, freshman Stephanie Gordon made six saves on ODU's nine shots at the net.

ODU senior goalkeeper Lauren Tupman grabbed her 16th career shutout with the win, making one save in the contest. The ODU defense allowed just six shots in the game and just one on frame. Watson led the offensive attack with six shots, four on-net, while four different Lady Monarchs factored into the scoring on Sunday.

ODU will remain at home this weekend as they host James Madison (9-3-2/5-1-0) on Friday night at 7:00 pm and VCU (7-5-1/3-1-1) on Sunday at 1:00 pm. Madison defeated Drexel 5-0 today and improved to 5-1 to take over first place in the league.
