PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- The No. 17 Drexel Dragons put a halt to the Old Dominion field hockey team's five-game win streak on Sunday by shutting out the Lady Monarchs, 3-0.

The loss was Old Dominion's first in conference play as they fell to 6-7 overall and 4-1 in the Colonial Athletic Association. The Dragons, who earned their first win in the series history, improved to 11-3 overall and 4-1 in the CAA.

The Dragons led 2-0 at the half. Amanda Kicera notched the game-winner 13 minutes into the contest as she lifted a pass from Carolina Gibernau past goalkeeper Kelly Driscoll (West Chester, Pa.). Drexel extended its lead in the closing minutes of the opening stanza off the stick of Susan Ciufo, the CAA's third leading scorer, on a penalty corner.

Drexel added in an insurance goal with 10 minutes remaining in the game. Gibernau sent home a blast off a free hit from Kim Tunell.

Old Dominion's Driscoll was pulled out the cage in the game's final 10 minutes in favor of an extra field player to try and generate more offensive production. The Drexel defense however would hold the Lady Monarchs without a shot.

The Dragons outshot the Lady Monarchs, 20-7, limiting ODU to just two shots in the second half. Junior Katie Ueberroth (Stevens, Pa.) led the Lady Monarchs with two shots on goal. Drexel also outcornered Old Dominion, 9-4.

Driscoll made eight saves in the loss, while Drexel's Colleen McAndrew made four saves in her first shutout of the season.

The Lady Monarchs return home to begin a seven-game homestand starting on Wednesday, October 15th with California. Old Dominion will also host No. 1 Maryland and No. 9 Duke later in the week.
