Norfolk, Va. – The ODU women’s tennis team won all four singles championships in which the Lady Monarchs competed during the final day of the Sergio Tacchini Collegiate Invitational at the Folkes-Stevens Indoor Tennis Center.
In the A-1 singles bracket it was an all Lady Monarch final as Nadine Fahoum battled teammate and fellow sophomore Joanna Dobrowolska. Fahoum came away the winner in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4 to capture her second singles crown of the fall season after also winning the Hampton Roads Open.
Senior Charleen Haarhoff overpowered a pair of Rams from VCU on her way to the A-2 championship. In the semifinals Haarhoff defeated Mihaela Bunea 6-1, 6-2, and in the finals she cruised to a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Nicolta Bara.
Freshmen Irina Dementyeva and Margarita Spicin continued their strong fall performances with wins in their respective brackets as well. In the B-2 singles final Dementyeva had little trouble with George Mason’s Brooke Blackwell, earning the 6-2, 6-4 win.
Spicin advanced to the final round of the B-3 bracket after a 6-1, 6-1 defeat of Delaware’s Ivana Petrich. In the finals Penn State’s Denisa Zobeideh proved to be tougher opponent, but she also fell 6-3, 6-4.
The Lady Monarchs bid for a fifth singles title was halted when Marija Citic was defeated by Penn State’s Monika Mical 6-1, 6-2 in the B-1 semifinals.
