HAMPTON, Va. -- After eight completed races in A division and six in B division, the ODU Monarchs sailing team is on top of the standings at the Hampton Bay Days Regatta. Thomas O'Bryan and Gavin Rudolph skippered ODU into first with eight combined wins in the 14 races finished on day one.
O'Bryan teamed with Rachel Jacobs and sailed to four victories in A division. The pair also added a second, third and fourth to finish with 19 points total. The lead is just two points ahead of Fordham and six ahead of Virginia.
In B division sailing, Rudolph sailed with Jessica Milligan and also added four wins for Old Dominion. The tandem grabbed two seconds, giving them 8 points, just two off the best possible score for six races. The ODU boat is trailed by two from Fordham and by 11 from Monmouth.
The team total after the first day is 27 points, giving ODU a four-point edge over Fordham heading into the second day.
