NORFOLK, Va. -- Junior Alyschia Conn (Peach Bottom, Pa.) tallied both goals in Friday night's 2-0 victory over Towson, as the Old Dominion field hockey team won its third straight contest and collected its second consecutive shutout.
With the win, the Lady Monarchs improve to 4-6 overall and 2-0 in Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) play. Towson fell to 7-4 overall and 1-2 in league play.
Conn's first goal and her first of the season came a minute into the game. On the first of nine Lady Monarch penalty corners, senior Katelyn Smither's (Suffolk, Va.) strike landed along side the left post. As the Tiger defenders attempted to clear the ball, Conn got her stick onto the ball and past Tiger netminder Whitney Clugston for the 1-0 lead.
In the second half, Conn struck early off another Old Dominion penalty corner opportunity. On the option, the ball was sent to the top of the circle to sophomore Paige Clutter (Chambersburg, Pa.). Clutter looking for an opening found Conn in front of the Towson cage.
Old Dominion led in both shots and corners. The Lady Monarchs outshot the Tigers, 13-6, and held a 9-7 edge in penalty corners.
In goal, senior Kelly Driscoll (West Chester, Pa.) made three stops en-route to her second shutout of the year and the 22nd of her career. Towson's Clugston registered six saves in the loss.
The Old Dominion field hockey team returns to action on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. when they host Delaware at the Powhatan Sports Complex.
