NORFOLK, Va. -- The Old Dominion women's soccer team opens up its home slate with two games this weekend, starting with a game Friday night against Liberty University. After opening 3-0 on the road, ODU will host the Flames (0-2) at 7:00 pm and then will welcome Elon University (1-1-1) on Sunday at 1:00 pm.
ODU is 3-0 against Liberty and is coming off a 5-0 victory last year in Lynchburg. Senior Shavon Knight led the way with two goals in that contest and entering the game this year, Knight is the hottest offensive player for the Lady Monarchs, scoring four goals in the first three games.
Leading the defense is CAA Player of the Week and SOCCER BUZZ Elite Team of the Week honoree Elizabeth Brewster. The team has outscored opponents 8-3 in the first three games and has been nearly inpenetrable after the halfway point this year allowing just four shots a game and one goal after the break. Senior Marilee Mastaler, juniors Brittney Kortz and Saratu Dodo and freshman Lisa Bernardini have helped lock down this season.
After the game against Liberty, ODU will play Elon on Sunday. ODU is 2-0 against Elon in the all-time matchup outscoring the Phoenix 6-0 in the two games. Elon has opened with a win against Maryland and a tie against High Point.
