Shea's Golden Goal Lifts Field Hockey To 1-0 Victory Over Northeastern In CAA Opener

BOSTON, Mass. -- Junior Kathleen Shea (Elizaville, N.Y.) lifted the Old Dominion field hockey team with her golden goal, as the Lady Monarchs kicked off the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) portion of its schedule with a 1-0 win over Northeastern. The goal came just 37 seconds into overtime as classmate Katie Ueberroth (Stevens, Pa.) found Shea in front of the Husky cage as the Lady Monarchs immediately controlled the ball as soon as the whistle began the extra stanza.

Shea's goal was her first of the season.

The victory give Old Dominion back-to-back victories as they improve to 3-6 overall. Northeastern meanwhile dropped its second straight conference contest and fell to 5-4 overall and 0-2 in the CAA.

Old Dominion outshot Northeastern 15-7 and outcornered the Huskies, 6-3. It was the Lady Monarchs held an advantage in either category since their win over Richmond back on September 13th.

Goalkeeper Kelly Driscoll (West Chester, Pa.) made three saves to collect her first shutout of the year and 21st of her career. Northeastern's Colleen Duffy recorded eight saves in the loss.

The Lady Monarchs return home to the Powhatan Sports Complex to host a pair of CAA games next weekend. Old Dominion hosts Towson on Friday, October 3rd at 5:00 p.m. and Delaware on Sunday, October 5th at 1:00 p.m.
