ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Four ODU sailors were entered in the Laser South #2 this weekend, finishing 5th, 6th, 10th and 14th. John and Kevin Shockey finished 5th and 6th respectively, just missing the MAISA Singlehanded Championship in October. Junior Kyle Rogachenko qualified earlier this season with a win of the Laser South #1.
John Shockey never finished out of the top seven boats, including a second place effort in the final race of the regatta. In eight complete races, the ODU sailor grabbed one second, two fourths and two fifths. He totaled 40 points, just four points back of the top four qualifying slots.
His twin brother, Kevin Shockey, finished just behind him with 47 total points. He won the second race and finished in the top ten in all eight completed races. He added four top fives in the event.
ODU newcomer Gavin Rudolph also sailed in the event, finishing 10th. He grabbed a fourth place finish in the final race on Sunday, giving him 86 points. Patty O'Bryan finished with 109 points and a 14th place effort to round out the scoring for ODU.
