NORFOLK, VA - The Old Dominion University (3-3-1) soccer Monarchs return to action Friday for their first conference game of the season as they travel to Newark, DE. To play the University of Delaware (1-4-2) at 7:00 p.m. ODU leads the all-time series 9-2, but Delaware defeated the Monarchs 2-0 last year in Newark.
ODU is led by sophomore forward T.J. Beaulieu (Apex, NC.) who has scored four goals and recorded two assists this season. Junior midfielder Dylan Montambo (Chesapeake, VA. ) has also recorded two assists on the season. Sophomore Brennan Kirkpatrick has played five matches in goal with a 0.38 goals against average and three shutouts.
Last Friday, the Monarchs downed Bryant University 7-0 at the ODU Soccer Complex in their final non-conference action of the season. Junior forward Steffen Rabben (Fagernes, Valdres, Norway) scored three goals and sophomore Forward T.J. Beaulieu (Apex, NC.) added two and two assists for the Monarchs. The seven goals were the most scored in a game for ODU since it posted a 7-0 final against American in 2000. Rabben was tabbed as CAA's Co-Rookie of the Week for his performance Friday night.
The Blue Hens are coming off a 2-2 tie against Rider on Sunday. Delaware has been in close matches so far this season, playing in three overtime games and finishing with two ties on the year. Sophomore forward Darren Christie leads the way for the Blue Hens this season with three goals and one assist. Freshman forward Andy Streilein and junior midfielder Paul Danaher each have two assists recorded for Delaware.
ODU returns to action next Saturday, October 4th as they travel to Wilmington to take on the UNC Wilmington Seahawks at 7:00 p.m.
