BRONX, N.Y. -- Without any wind on Sunday, the ODU sailing team took home 6th place at the NY Maritime Fall Open this weekend, paced by the B division boat skippered by freshman Zach Kelchner. Kelchner and sophomore crew Ashley Pellerito finished 2nd in B division after six completed races with 21 points.
The B division tandem were just eight points behind Hobart & William Smith for the division lead heading into the second day, and were not given a chance at the lead on Sunday when the wind never filled in. Kelchner and Pellerito won two races and never finished outside of the top six for 21 poiints in six completed races.
In A division, Wilson Stout and Arianna Baker captured one top five finish and totaled 64 points for an 11th place finish.
The team posted 85 points in the regatta, just three points out of the top five. The team also placed 14th at the Nevins Trophy Regatta in New York this weekend.
