GREENSBORO, NC--Sophomore T.J. Beaulieu (Apex, NC.) scored two goals with-in thefirst three minutes of the second half to help the ODU Soccer Monarchs (1-2-1)defeat UNC Greensboro, 2-1 Sunday in the second round of the UNCG Spartan Soccer Classic.
UNCG got on the board first with 16 seconds left in the first half. Matt Elliott scored on a header of a corner kick from Jokull Elisabetarson.
ODU came out in the second half with a goal 33 seconds in as T. J. Beaulieu gathered a passfrom Nane Joseph (Cameroon) and hit it in from 18 yards out to tie the match at 1-1. The game winner came two minutes later as Beaulieu, a 2007 CAA All-Rookie selection scored on an assist from Haris Cekic(London Ontario).
ODU controlled the game, outshooting UNCG, 10-2 overall and 4-1 in shots on goal.
The Monarchs host the 33rd annual Stihl Soccer Classic Sept. 12 and 14. ODU will play last year's NCAA semi-finalist Massachusetts Friday at 7 p.m. William and Mary will play Central Florida at 4:30 at theODU Soccer Complex.
