NORFOLK, Va. -- Tropical Storm Hanna held off her landfall on the Hampton Roads area long enough for the ODU women's soccer team (4-0) to drop Liberty University (0-3) in commanding fashion, 4-0. The Lady Monarchs controlled the game from start to finish, taking 35 shots, including 25 on goal as four different ODU players scored in the game. Senior Katie Watson led the way with a goal and an assist and classmate Shavon Knight knocked home her third gamewinner of the year in the 13th minute of play.

Old Dominion jumped into the lead just 12 minutes into the game as they pressured the defense inside the box. Freshman Victoria Johnson was taken down from behind just a few feet inside the box, awarding the Lady Monarchs a penalty kick. Knight took the kick and scooted it past the keeper for the eventual gamewinner.

Just over five minutes later, ODU was awarded another free kick, this time on the opposite side of the field and just outside the box on the goal line. Watson lifted the ball to the far post and fellow senior Caroline Brown knocked it in for her first goal of the season.

ODU pushed forward for the duration of the half, putting up 18 shots in the frame including 12 on goal. It was much the same in the second frame as the team took 17 shots putting 13 on net. In the 79th minute freshman Jocelyn Weidner would knock home her first goal after a great pass from defender Brittney Kortz. Weidner beat a defender at the top of the box and sent a shot high into the goal. The final tally would come off the foot of Watson, just into the game as a substitution, on an assist from Johnson.

Liberty's freshman goalkeeper managed to save 21 shots in the loss, including several fantastic diving stops. The Flames were led offensively by Ashley Braam, who took three shots including the lone attempt on-goal for Liberty.

ODU keeper Lauren Tupman notched her second shutout of the season with the 4-0 victory while making one save. The Lady Monarchs attack was paced by Watson, who took nine shots including six on-net.

ODU returns to their home field on Sunday as they host Elon (1-1-1) at 1:00 pm. The Lady Monarchs are 2-0 lifetime against the Phoenix with a pair of shutout victories in 2005 and 2006.
