CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA--Arthur Ivo and Manuel Mariel scored second half goals to lead theSMU Mustangs to a 2-0 victory over Old Dominion Friday afternoon in the UVA SoccerClassic. SMU ranks 17th by the NSCAA/adidas and 14th by SOCCER AMERICA, ODU was27th in the pre-season by COLLEGE SOCCER NEWS. This was the season opener for both teams.
After a scoreless first half, Ivo got a one-touch cross from the left side by Dan Saintusto giveSMU a 1-0 lead in the first minute of the second half. Manuel then scored from 12 yards outWith an assist from Paulo Da Silva.
ODU had three shots on the day from Ambane Emmanuel(Yaunde, Cameroon), Robert Sgueglia (Schenectady, NY.) and T. J. Beaulieu (Apex. NC.).Freshmen keeper Michael Roura made his first collegiate start and had four saves on the dayFor the Monarchs.
