WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Lady Monarchs (2-0) defeated the Colonials of George Washington University (0-2) in stunning fashion on Friday night, as senior Elizabeth Brewster nailed the game winning goal with no time remaining on the clock in overtime. Senior Shavon Knight knocked in a corner kick with less than 10 seconds remaining, the defense cleared it to Brewster and she laced a shot from outside the box that just crossed the goal line in time at the finish of the first overtime. Brewster added an assist on freshman Victoria Johnson's goal earlier in the game as ODU dropped GWU, 2-1.

Early in the game, ODU held what looked to be a distinct advantage, outshooting the Colonials 7-3 in the first half. However, GW was able to find the back of the net with one of their shots in the first, giving them a 1-0 lead. A free kick with just over a 1:00 remaining in the first half by Jillian Morgan bounced over the defensive line and Misa Eiritz picked it up and poked a shot by ODU keeper Lauren Tupman for the goal.

ODU would score the equalizer in the second half off of freshman Victoria Johnson's second goal of the year. In the 74th minute, Brewster corraled the ball and dribbled forward toward midfield before sending a ball bounding past the GW defense. Johnson got to it and sent a solid shot past the diving keeper for the goal.

With just under three minutes to go in the second half, Johnson found senior Janna Pearson in the box for a shot from less than 10 yards out. Pearson put a charge into it but it was blocked by a defender to thwart the possible gamewinner in regulation.

Brewster's goal with no time remaining was the third game-winner of her career. Tupman, in goal, played all 100 minutes and made five saves. Johnson led the way with four shots, while Pearson, Katie Watson and Shavon Knight all added three for the Lady Monarchs.

ODU will take on Loyola College (Md.) on the road on Sunday at 5:00 pm. The game is the home opener for the defending MAAC Champions as they did not play a Friday night game.
