QINGDAO, CHINA -- The USA Sailing Team, led by former Lady Monarchs Sally Barkow and Debbie Capozzi in the Yngling class, is poised to make a run at the podium headed into the first off day of the event. With six completed races, the American team is tied with Australia with 32 net points and is just 17 points back of the British team leading the fleet. On day three, Barkow, Capozzi and teammate Carrie Howe sailed to a sixth place and 11th place efforts giving them 46 total points.
Starting today, the teams eliminate their worst heat from their total score. For the Americans, it was a 14th place finish to open the event. Since, Barkow has led the team to four top ten finishes and a share of third place.
Tuesday will be the first off day for the Yngling class since the Olympics began. They will prepare for the final four races taking place on Wednesday and Thursday with the Medal Race set for Saturday at 2:00 AM (EST).
A third Lady Monarch alum will hit the seas tomorrow as Anna Tunnicliffe ('05-Plantation, Fla.), ranked #1 in the world, will sail in the Laser Radial event. It will be her first Olympic appearance.
