QINGDAO, CHINA -- The 2008 Beijing Olympics continued Sunday and two former Lady Monarchs made a push up the leaderboard in the Yngling class of the sailing events. Sally Barkow ('02-Nashotah, Wisc.) and Debbie Capozzi ('03-Bayport, N.Y.) sailed with teammate Carrie Howe to a pair of top eight finishes including their second top five effort in four completed races. The USA Team jumped from 9th place to 4th after the second day of racing and have six more races before the medal race on August 16.
The British team continues to pace the fleet with 16 total points, just 13 ahead of the Americans. Capozzi, Howe and Barkow are just four points out of the top three spots behind the Dutch team sitting in third with 26 total points.
The weather forecast for Qingdao tomorrow calls for morning squalls, which will make sailing increasingly more difficult. The racing continues tomorrow, with an off-day scheduled for Tuesday. The last four races will be on Wednesday and Thursday with another break on Friday before the medal race on Saturday, August 16.
