NORFOLK, VA--Old Dominion University sophomore lefthander Corey Toth (Chincoteague, Va.) held Longwood hitless for seven innings and finished with a one hitter as ODU (17-17) defeats The Lancers (20-14), 11-1 Tuesday night.
Longwood's David Smiy led off the seventh inning with a walk, then Topher Ellis (Virginia Beach, Va.) singled to right center to break-up the no-hitter. Daniel Abdalla and Dexter Carter pitched the final two innings. This is the 20th one-hitter in ODU history and the first since Anthony Shawler's last year against Rutgers.
ODU senior centerfielder Jimmy Miles had three hits and stole two more bases to uphis NCAA national leading total to 29. He also scored three times which ranks himsecond in the CAA with 46. Miles is now batting .390.
Anthony Shawler (Chesapeake, Va.-Oscar Smith HS) had three hits and knocked in two runs, while Jake McAloose(Virginia Beach, Va.-Princess Anne HS) , David Burns, Chris Buss each had two hits. McAloose also knocked in two runs.
ODU freshmen Chris Baker (Chesapeake, Va.,-Deep Creek HS) and Donnie Corsner (Virginia Beach, Va.- Princess Anne HS) both hit their first collegiate homeruns back-to-back in the eight inning.
ODU pounded out 17 hits on the night as ten of 12 batters got hits.
ODU returns to CAA play this weekend with a three-game series at Hofstra beginningFriday at 3 p.m. in Hempstead, NY.
