ODU DEFEATS TOWSON BEHIND BERGH, 13-4

TOWSON, MD -- Old Dominion University senior righthander Ryan Bergh tossedhis third straight CAA complete game as the Monarchs defeated Towson, 13-4Sunday. ODU ends a five-game losing streak to improve to 16-17 overall and 8-8 in theCAA. Towson drops to 18-17 overall and 7-8 in the CAA

Bergh gave up four runs and five hits in the first inning, then shut down the Tigersthe rest of the way to run his record to 4-2 overall. Bergh fanned four and walkedonly one batter. He now has a 3.10 ERA.

ODU took the lead with a three-run spot in the fourth. Edgar Hernandez scored onMax Mosts' groundout and Bryan Cipolla singled home both Chris Keenan and Mostto give ODU the 5-4 lead. In the fifth Chris Keenan walked with the bases loadedwhich plated David Burns to make it 6-4.

In the sixth inning, and the bases loaded, the Monarchs scored three runs on three successive wild pitches allowing Max Most, Bryan Cipolla and Anthony Shawler to score.

Max Most and Cipolla each knocked in two runs, while sophomore shortstopGerard Hall knocked in three with a three-run homer in the eighth. Jimmy Miles,Max Most, Edgar Hernandez, and Gerard Hall each had two hits on the day.

ODU returns to action on Tuesday when they host Longwood at 6 p.m.
