TOWSON, MD--Towson (18-16/7-7) erupted for seven runs in the seventh inninghighlighted with a three-run homer by Brian Conley to defeat Old Dominion (15-17/7-8),12-9 Saturday afternoon.
Trailing 4-0 after two innings, ODU rallied to take the lead twice. In the third, ODUscored five runs thanks to RBI hits from Max Most, Bryan Cipolla, David Burns andGerard Hall along with a groundout RBI by Anthony Shawler to give ODU a 5-4 lead.
Towson tied the game in the bottom of the third, but senior centerfielder Jimmy Milesgave the Monarchs the lead again with a leadoff homer in the top of the fourth. The Monarchs added three in the sixth. Miles singled, then stole two bases and came home on Cipolla's RBI single. Anthony Shawler then singled home Max Most, and Jake McAloose doubled home Cipolla. The Monarchs took a 9-5 lead.
In the bottom of the seventh, Towson cut ODU's lead to 9-8 when with runners onfirst and third Brian Conley slammed a three-run homer to put the Tigers up 11-9. MattCollins then followed with a solo shot to make it 12-9.
Towson reliever Josh Squatrito came on in the eighth to pick up his second straightsave in the series and fifth of the season.
Jimmy Miles led ODU with four hits in six at-bats along with two stolen bases. He nowleads the Monarchs with a.385 batting average and a CAA leading 26 stolen bases. Milesscored three times on the day. Bryan Cipolla, Anthony Shawler and Jake McAloose eachhad three hits on the day. Cipolla and Shawler also knocked in two runs a piece.
Brian Conley led Towson with five RBI, while Nick Natoli and Steve Yarsinsky eachhad three hits for the Tigers.
Game three of the series is Sunday at 1 p.m. at Schuerholz Park.
